Album Review: Shadows Fall – Retribution

Shadows_fall_retributionWith their short lived experience with the majors behind them, on September 15 Shadows Fall released Retribution
, their latest record, first through their own Everblack Industries.

Retribution features a very heterogeneous blend of hard rock, groove, death and thrash with a few acoustic moments that makes for a very interesting deliver. Right after the acoustic The Path of Imminent Ruin, which serves as an intro, Retribution goes straight into kill mode with My Demise. The riffage starts pouring straight out of the gate.

Then comes  Still I Rise, a more groove piece, clearly aimed to be the record’s comercial cut. The clean vocal arrangements are a nice plus to the already solid arrangement of elements that compose the songs.

Shadows Fall

Shadows Fall performed live at J&R CD store over the weekend. The band played some favorites from Threads of Life and The War Within as well as a new song called “Public Execution”. The band even played an encore despite employees being scared of Brian Fair who was jumping on top of the CD racks. See photos of that and the rest of the show by clicking the buttons up top.
