Mastodon To Reissue Blood Mountain Vinyl For Record Store Day
Mastodon will be reissuing Blood Mountain on vinyl in standard and deluxe versions for Record Store Day this April 17th. Updated album artwork has been created for the release by the bands long time artist Paul Romano which can be seen below. Other exclusive Record Store Day vinyl includes releases from Black Label Society, Them Crooked Vultures and Gogol Bordello. (via The PRP)
RIP: Alex Chilton (1950 – 2010)
Alex Chilton of Big Star passed away yesterday due to heart complications in New Orleans at the age of 59. Popeater has put together a nice write up and a collection of his music.
Big Star had recently been touring and it’s a shame to see him go and such a young age. In fact Big Star was scheduled to play this Saturday at SXSW in Austin, Texas. Alex was highly influential to a number of bands including one of my all time favorites, The Replacements.

Video: Ted Leo & The Pharmicists Cover Tears For Fears
The Onion’s AV Club has started a new featured dubbed “Undercover” where 25 bands will visit their office to cover one song off a pre-determined list until they are all gone. Ted Leo is up first with a cover of the Tears For Fears track “Everybody Wants To Rule The World.” Other artists to be covered include Nirvana, Pavement, The Rolling Stones, The Wedding Present, Archers of Loaf, Superchunk, Guided By Voices and The Replacements.

Album Art Spotlight: Brian Posehn – “Fart And Weiner Jokes”
Self-proclaimed nerd and lover of heavy metal, Brian Posehn will be releasing his second comedy album Fart And Wiener Jokes
via Relapse on April 27th. Similar to the first album, this one will include a few metal songs with an all-star band. The album’s illustration features a slightly more ripped Posehn standing on the dismembered heads of other comedians including Russell Brand, Carrot Top, Jeff Foxworthy, Margret Cho and Larry the Cable Guy. I suppose this lives up to his slogan, “Death To False Comedy”
